WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF IV THERAPY
The process of IV therapy involves inserting a needle into the arm or another part of the body, with only slight discomfort felt during the initial skin puncture. Prior to treatment, each client’s medical history is evaluated, and if necessary, a blood test is performed to ensure the correct amount of nutrients is infused.
The rate and quantity of intravenous fluid administered depend on the client’s medical condition, weight, and age. A qualified nurse will disinfect the skin over the injection area, typically the arm, locate a vein, and insert an IV catheter.
Once the catheter is in place, the procedure takes between 15-90 minutes, depending on the type of treatment. During this time, clients can relax, watch TV, read a magazine, or even take a nap.
